Natural Phenomenon: Frozen Methane Bubbles

Frozen methane bubbles is a bubble under a frozen lake. It can be seen at the Abraham Lake in Canada. The best time to see them would be late December to late January.

Methane bubbles form in bodies of water when dead organic matter (leaves and animals) falls into the water and sinks to the bottom to the delight of bacteria waiting below. When the water starts to froze, the methane bubbles trapped under the water and can't reach the atmosphere.

Frozen methane bubbles contains methane, a highly flammable gas that cause greenhouse effect.  Methane is not a harmful gas but if it touches fire, it can easily burned. You wouldn't want to light a match when these frozen bubbles popped.

However, behind its stunning beauty of these frozen bubbles, it contains a terrible message. As a gas that cause greenhouse effect, methane gas emissions increase exponentially if global temperatures rise by 1 Celcius. Which means, earth has become hotter because of global warming.
